Flying Gown on the Savannah Marsh

A person in a flowing, flying gown stands in a grassy field at sunset, wearing a decorative headpiece with branches. The scene evokes the serene beauty of a Savannah marsh as the twilight casts warm hues all around.

Every few years, my sister-in-law JinHi joins me for a photo session—glamour shots, pinup, boudoir, she’s done it all. For over six years, she’s been battling stage four lung cancer, enduring countless treatments. This latest round of chemo has been especially rough, and she’s lost her hair again.

I wasn’t sure if she’d be up for another shoot, but when I mentioned it, her eyes lit up. We planned a stunning flying gown session at sunset on the marsh, one of my favorite portrait locations in Savannah. She chose a the white flying gown from my studio’s wardrobe—its first time being worn. My go-to makeup artist, Crystal, worked her magic, and JinHi completed the look with a unique antler crown.

On location, she balanced on her one remaining leg from childhood cancer, determined to get the shot. At one point, she tossed her crutches aside, fully embracing the moment. We only shot for ten minutes, but that’s all this goddess needed. As the sun set, we wrapped up, knowing we’d captured something truly special.

I love how these photos came out. There is something very ethereal about the white flying gown, and if you’ve followed me or Savannah Glamour for any length of time you know I love photographing women at last light on the marsh!
